Our Story
Machining was Garret Preece’s first career, not gunsmithing. While working as a service engineer installing and maintaining large CNC equipment, he started shooting precision rifles and quickly realized he wanted to build them himself. He began learning in the afternoons at ES-Tactical in Ogden, studying alongside experienced gunsmiths and developing his own repeatable process for building rifles that stack bullets on top of each other.
In late 2017, Garret invested in a lathe and started the process of obtaining an FFL. What started as a garage operation grew fast. By early 2019, Preece Precision had moved into its own brick-and-mortar facility in Ogden, Utah, and Garret left his day job to build rifles full time.
Today, Garret specializes in purpose-built PRS competition rifles and lightweight hunting rifles, with 140+ PRS matches under his own belt, including a 2022 Regional Series win. Every rifle that leaves the shop reflects that same competitive standard.
